Metropol Hotel – Your Majestic Gateway to Moscow's History

In the heart of Moscow, next to the Bolshoi Theatre just a 5-minute walk from Red Square, stands the magnificent Metropol Hotel. Originally conceived by Savva Mamontov as a “theatre with a hotel,” the hotel still retains its theatrical atmosphere. This is evident in its soaring high ceilings, opulent grand lobby, and aesthetically pleasing decor, which blend historical grandeur with modern luxury. Whether you're drawn to the hotel's rich history or its modern luxuries, the Metropol offers an unparalleled blend of the past and present, with rooms tailored to suit every preference.

If you prefer a more historic atmosphere, the classical rooms are an excellent choice. These rooms offer breathtaking views and are furnished with exquisite antique furniture and decorative items, enhancing the room's ambiance. For those who lean towards a more modern style, the Metropol Hotel provides renovated rooms that blend historical decor with contemporary design and amenities. These updated rooms maintain the spirit of Moscow Art Nouveau, featuring low-silled windows with views of the majestic historical centre, and include antique furniture and decorative elements from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Metropol Hotel is Moscow's premier venue for prestigious events, featuring 16 unique halls that accommodate 10 to 450 guests. Highlights include the panoramic “Bryusov” hall with views of the Bolshoi Theatre, and the intimate “Chekhov” and “Turgenev” halls with stained glass. As the largest event complex in central Moscow, it offers international standards and personalised service. Metropol’s acclaimed concierge, led by Andrey Korystov and his team from the “Golden Keys” concierge world association, provides bespoke programmes, from securing event tickets to uncovering the city's culinary gems, ensuring an unforgettable experience.

During my stay, mornings began with rain pouring down Moscow's historic buildings and enjoying one of the best breakfasts by the calming fountain in the Metropol Hall. A large buffet filled with all the best breakfast options – rich caviar, perfectly boiled eggs, syrniki with sour cream – you get the idea! The variety of cuisines is incredible, as you can fill your tray with traditional Asian breakfast, European, or classic Russian options. As you proceed to the main hall to enjoy your morning, you hear the magical sound filling the room – each breakfast routine is accompanied by a harp performance. This is what we call a fresh start to the day! For a marvellous lunch, SAVVA is the place to go. The restaurant offers both traditional Russian and international dishes, all served with top quality – you’ll definitely want to try everything. The modern and enchanting interior creates a perfect setting for a relaxing lunch or even business meetings. As day turns to night and the city’s street lamps begin to glow, Chaliapin Bar, located next to the main hall of the Metropol, comes alive in vibrant colours. It’s like travelling through time, transitioning from the hotel’s classic architecture to the bar’s modern elegance. Notably, grace and tradition are seamlessly woven into the bar’s updated format, complemented by an exclusive cocktail menu.

The cocktail, inspired by the famous opera singer celebrated in the bar's name, is a definite must-try! The Metropol Hotel can certainly make a statement. Whether your top priority is hospitable service, luxurious architecture, rich history, or an exceptional culinary experience, the Metropol will leave you more than satisfied. And as you step out of the hotel to explore the city and begin your adventures, you realise the most important thing – the Metropol Hotel is where Moscow truly happens!
